Love Angel 365 was started in April 2020 aims to reduce the hunger number in Malaysia through the support of mass media to create public awareness towards zero hunger in local community. Encourage Malaysian to change their attitude and behaviour in 5 years by donating Love Angel lunch boxes through providing facts and call for action. Based on the statistic of 2020 Global Hunger Index, Malaysia ranks 59th out of 107 countries. The level of hunger in Malaysia is moderate. In addition to the covid-19 crisis had disrupted the food supply chain, directly impacted poor family income group. Therefore, we encourage Malaysian donate more Love Angel Lunch Boxes to people in need.

Love Angel Lunch Boxes prepared by pure vegetarian food, contains 100% plant-based vegetable without added preservatives and chemical. Lunch boxes are prepared by Mamavege kitchen every morning and distribute to targeted group of people. Donations collected was done voluntarily with no minimum amount. In addition, Love Angel 365 lunch box can be treated as a gift to family members, friends or colleagues, with name or quotes sticker on lunch box. Donors can be in personal, group or organizations.  

Love Angel 365 target group is lower income group, homeless, unemployed and OKU citizens regardless of age, gender, or races.

PROJECT RESULT

This project had created impact towards the society. Since the start of the project until now, Mamavege’s team and volunteers had distributed 261,569 Love Angel lunch boxes in total. During MCO period, Mamavege and teams distributed average 2,500 Love Angel lunch boxes daily to families living in poverty-stricken areas of Kulim, Bandar Baru, Lunas, Sungai Petani, Gurun, Berapit, Bukit Mertajam, Jawi, Tambun, Raja Uda, Bayan Baru, Sri Pinang, Bukit Tengah, Machang Bubuk, 30 members of Majlis Pengurusan Komuniti Kampung (MPKK). Love Angel 365 also contributes towards medical and non-medical frontliners working at Penang’s General Hospital, Hospital Kulim and Hospital Bukit Mertajam, the People’s Volunteer Corps (RELA) and the police.

On top of the daily lunch boxes provided, the teams also gives out face masks and vegetables that public  have donated to the families in need.

WHAT IMPACT HAS THIS PROJECT CREATED IN THE COMMUNITY/ NATION?

This project creates commendable opportunity for their employees to involve in social responsibility activities in order to contribute and serve the society. There is a strong belief that volunteering could create a positive impact on personal well-being, skill development and teamwork. It shows that the result of commitment for few hours is truly helpful. Employees and volunteers could have a better collaboration when they work together outside the workplace on project that generate positive social change.

The impact in the community is that people realised every little efforts helps to make a differences in someone’s life. This project had create impact on all Malaysian citizen regardless of races, religious, or gender in helping people in need. Overall, this project aims to reduce hunger in the Malaysia’s community and enable all citizens to have equal food distribution. It is also to address the problem of hunger who do not have enough food consume daily may lead to death. Love Angel lunch boxes comes in vegetarian lunch, and the food is prepared with nutrients needed for the day. Vegetarian diet is high in fiber and low in saturated fats, which is one of the healthiest ways to eat. Mamavege provides food with no preservatives and chemicals added, to ensure the healthy lifestyle of citizens. It could also decrease the malnutrition rate in Malaysia.

HOW WAS THIS PROJECT HELP TO ADVANCE THE CHOSEN SDG?

According to the SDGs, we had chosen Zero Hunger as our goal. Hunger can be end through the support of food to maintain sufficient nutrients for our body. This project enable us to take care of the people in need and poor families in our surrounding through our continuous efforts distributing Love Angel lunch boxes to the needed people. These actions and efforts could motivate more people, companies, organisations and related units to express their kindness and involve more social responsibilities activities.

Sharing is caring. This project help to advance the chosen SDG through publicity on mass media and social media to voice up the seriousness of hunger in Malaysia. As Mamavege will update latest information about Love Angel 365 on social media platform from time to time, providing credible information and facts on official Facebook’s page to attract public attention and raise public awareness the hunger rate of Malaysia, and start to make changes towards goal of zero hunger.

Vegetarian food can save hunger and world food crisis. Based on an ecologist at Cornell University in United States, David Pimentel stated livestock-cows, chickens, pigs, ducks, etc eat five times more grains than the American population. We could relate it to Malaysia’s perspective, if we could reduce in meat consumption, save up more foods for people in needed. According to Jean Mayer, the nutritionist from Harvard University stated that we could save enough grains for 60 millions people buy cutting down 10% of meat consumption. Therefore, vegetarian is good for environmental protection.

This project emphasis on equality and unity where the distribution of Love Angel lunch boxes are done regardless of skin colour, races and ages. We always maintain the spirit of helping people in need.
Mamavege plans to educate public start consume more vegetarian food instead of meat. It is for the healthier lifestyle and save the mother nature. Food wastage is one of the factor that lead to hunger. With the relation to the tagline of “Leaving No One Behind”, always make sure that there are no leftover in the dishes when we have our meals. If we have more food supplies, Mamavege encourage people to donate their surplus as sharing is caring. It is also because doing a good deed from donation could create a more meaningful life.
Other SDGs that had indirectly created positive impact to people and society is Good Health and Well Being. Vegetarian could bring good health to the people and reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. There is a systematic review published in 2015, stated that people who consume vegetarian diet are more likely to have lower overall cholesterol levels. It is because most of the cholesterol come from meat consumption.
This project had indirectly created positive impact on Climate Action. This is due to meat consumption caused increase of carbon dioxide and methane emissions. Research found that 60,000 calories of carbon dioxide energy needed in order to produce a piece on meat that is sold in the store. The carbon dioxide energy need a large forests to absorb carbon dioxide and releases oxygen. United Nations had proved that livestock animals are one of the greatest threat to global climate. As people could reduce their meat consumption and change to vegetarian food instead, there could improve the climate and provide great changes in our atmosphere.
