Last Straw Johor is a series of projects to support the movement of no plastic straws in Johor as straw is an example of extreme waste being generated for minimal convenience. It is also the Top 10 plastic found in the ocean and beach in Johor yet the government is not taking any action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This movement comes with an objective to educate the public to stop the use of plastic straws as the inadequate disposal has resulted in an adverse impact to our aquatic animals as well as our land and ocean. We hope to reaffirm the commitment of United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 14 Target 1, to \u201cprevent and significantly reduce marine pollution of all kinds, in particular from land-based activities, including marine debris and nutrient pollution<\/em>.\u201d Also, Goal 12: Responsible Consumption & Production to \u201creduce, reuse, recycle<\/strong>\u201d with the government sector, civil sectors and the community to create the biggest impact in Johor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last Straw Johor partnered with more than 30 stakeholders in the local community, with JCI South Key members committed to be the community LEADERS as we are responsible to guide the children of the FUTURE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We also reaffirm the commitment of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 14 Target 1, to \u201cprevent and significantly reduce marine pollution of all kinds, in particular from land-based activities, including marine debris and nutrient pollution.\u201d Also, Goal 12: Responsible Consumption & Production to \u201creduce, reuse, recycle\u201d. & Goal 17, Partnership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

JCI South Key<\/strong> measures community impact based on the following :<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

A) Recognition from the Government<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Malaysia Government<\/strong> recognized the program and provided support for LastStrawJohor
5 Government bodies in Johor State were involved, we received RM15,000 funding from government bodies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

B) Impact on Public<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n
  • Online Interview: Interviewing 1000 people on their view of banning plastic straws, raise awareness and educate the impact of using plastic straws.<\/li>
  • 6 agencies participated in LastStrawJohor Workshops: empowered students to share message about single-used plastic with family.<\/li>
  • 2,000 surveys collected: gathered key findings on current awareness and difficulties of implementing the ban of plastic straws which help to formula better alternatives.<\/li>
  • Multiple media coverages, 4 Newspaper, 4 Social media platforms were used to maximize the impact. By inviting Social Media Influences as ambassadors, raise awareness of the impact of plastic straws to at least 500,000 people.<\/li>
  • 10,000 biodegradable plastic was given to the public through a social media program with the extension of LSJ project of LastPlasticJohor which benefit 500 families.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n
