Project Title: PKT’s Green Warehouses @ One Logistics Hub – The Ship, The Waves & The Lighthouse Warehouses
Project Duration: PKT acquired this 27-acre piece of land along Kesas Highway in 2006 and started construction of The Ship Warehouse on 7th July 2008, completing it one year later. Construction of The Waves Warehouse started in Dec 2009 and was completed in Oct 2010. Construction of The Lighthouse Warehouse started in Nov 2011 and was completed in May 2015.
Location: The Ship, No. 1, One Logistic Hub, Persiaran Sungai Hampar, Section 32, 40460 Shah Alam, Selangor.
As a home-grown company, PKT invests in building our own warehouses to serve our customers. This allows us to build state-of-the-art warehouses that provide efficient and effective operations. However, the most critical objective in our warehouse designs is its environmental sustainability. One Logistics Hub’s three Green Warehouses – The Ship, The Waves and The Lighthouse – are equipped with environment-friendly features which not only sets construction benchmarks for all new warehouses in the country but proves that environmental friendly warehouses also make good economic sense.
Our warehouses are naturally lit & ventilated to reduce energy consumption and provide a comfortable working environment. Solar panels generate power that feeds into the TNB grid while electrically powered forklifts provide for zero emissions in the warehouse. Rain Water Harvesting systems harness rain water while LED lighting reduces energy for illumination. The Lighthouse is Malaysia’s first GBI Gold-certified warehouse while GreenTech Malaysia recognised it as a Top 30 Green Catalyst. One Logistics Hub currently enjoys above 90% rates of warehouse occupancy serving over 50 customers.
How did this project create impact to the employees/ volunteers?
The green credentials of PKT’s warehouse buildings lay a strong foundation for its management to instill the importance of environmental conservation among its employees. PKT employees practice waste reduction, recycling and energy conservation (during lunch hour). Lower temperatures, better illumination and zero smoke emissions produce a conducive work environment for our warehouse employees.
What impact has this project created in the community / nation?
With an occupancy rate of over 90%, these three warehouses provide job opportunities for the surrounding communities while contributing to nation building. Besides minimizing the environmental impact of our operations towards the surrounding communities, PKT also aims to set the construction benchmark for all future warehouses in Malaysia, with One Logistics Hub’s Green Warehouses.
Who were the partners in this project and what their roles?
PKT Group CEO, Dato’ Michael Tio, was the visionary man who integrated the environmental agenda in the construction of the One Logistics Hub. To realize its environmental ambitions while constructing aesthetically attractive warehouse buildings, PKT engaged renowned architect (Kun Lim Architect) and GBI Consultants (GBI Innovation Sdn Bhd) in the design of its warehouse buildings.
How was this project help to advance the chosen SDG?
With One Logistic Hub’s, PKT hopes to set and define the concept of green warehouses for the industry to build upon and improve. With the recognition from GreenTech Malaysia as one of the Top 30 Green Catalysts in the country, our Green Warehouses are testimony that environmental sustainability are as economically feasible in warehouse buildings as in office or residential buildings.
