Sun bear is a threatened species listed as “Vulnerable” under the IUCN Red Book Listing of endangered species.
BSBCS providing an improved long-term living environment and proper care for captive, rescued sun bears by Sabah Wildlife Department that cannot be released into the wild.
Over the past 14 years, BSBCC received 66 rescued, confiscated, and ex-pet sun bears across the Sabah, and released 11 rehabilitated ex-captive sun bears into the wild. Currently, the centre is home to 43 rescued sun bears and one captive-born Bornean Sun Bears.
