STEFAN PRIENSNER – United Nations Resident Coordinator for Malaysia

The United Nations has had a long history of collaboration with the Junior
Chamber International (JCI), especially on the Millennium Development Goals, and now on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Globally, JCI partners with the United Nations SDG Action Campaign to mobilize young people and other stakeholders to create awareness and take action on the SDGs at community level. Hence, it is very encouraging to see such efforts being replicated at country level by the Junior Chamber International Malaysia (JCIM).
On behalf of the United Nations Country Team (UNCT), I congratulate the JCIM for successfully establishing the JCIM Sustainable Development Award as a yearly event that is steadily gaining popularity amongst the private sector and other stakeholders. The Award, which is now in its second year of implementation, serves not only to promote the SDGs but more importantly to recognize the efforts of business and other entities that contribute in many creative and innovative ways to the attainment of this highly ambitious agenda. I therefore, commend all JCIM members, who have been involved in rolling out the Award, for their unwavering commitment and dedication in making this a clear success.
Moving forward, the UNCT looks forward to deepening its partnership with JCIM, especially through the National SDG Portal (https://mysdg.my/) that provides a platform for private sector, civil society, youth groups and others to showcase how various organizations are aligning themselves or contributing to the attainment of the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development and its implementation framework, the SDGs. These global goals are not an option. Each one of us, has a responsibility to do our part to ensure a better world not just for us but for generations to come. The five pillars of the SDGs i.e. people, planet, peace, prosperity and partnership are all interconnected. We can’t have one, without the other. JCIM has therefore, done well in prioritizing its focus on leaving no one behind and partnership for the 2018 JCIM Sustainable Development Award.
