JCI Bukit Mertajam (Malaysia) is affiliated on 1975 to JCI Malaysia & Junior Chamber international (JCI). JCI OKU Career Fair aims to provide Persons With Disabilities (PWD) candidates an opportunity to directly interact with companies during career fair. JCI OKU Career Fair is endorsed & supported by YB Phee Boon Poh, Penang State Exco for Environment, Welfare & Caring Society during 2017 and successfully provided over 350 job opportunities through the 20 participating companies. More than 50 PWD were helped in obtaining decent work to improve their life quality. We raise awareness through different channel include newspaper, Facebook and radio. The employees and volunteers were directly interacting with the PWD to gain experience and to understand more about PWD. We aim to provide job opportunities and to promote PWD rights to the participants. We have an increase in the number of participating companies and volunteers since 2014 to 2017 which showed the value of the program is slowly being accepted by the public.Our collaboration partners agree that we are part of the solution and willing to make positive changes together. Our partners were: Government Sectors (JKM, JTK, HRDF) provided guideline in hiring PWD and understanding the PWD capability in handling Job, SME Seberang Perai as corporate partner to promote PWD rights and the events, Companies to provide job opportunity, Media (AI FM) to promote Nationwide, Handicapped Center to provide PWD listing and serve as resume collection point in each area. JCI OKU Career fair aims to advance UNSDG 8. It is to increase labor productivity, reducing the unemployment rate, and improving access to financial services and benefits which are essential components of sustained and inclusive economic growth. 95% PWD in Malaysia are unemployed. This platform will help increase the number of employment by empowering PWD in the workforce.
