Finalist#17 Mah Sing Foundation

Mega Scale Gravity Water Project 2019

This is Mah Sing Foundation’s second collaboration with the Kota Kinabalu NGO, Hopes Malaysia. Targeting five villages in the Kadamaian area in Kota Belud, which are not connected to the public water supply. They mainly rely on natural water sources for their daily usage which the majority of the pipes used for these systems are in poor condition. We worked together to build the concrete water catchment and replace the villages’ PVC pipes to polypipe with the total length of piping at 11km. We managed to improve the livelihood of more than 3,400 rural villagers by providing them with a safe and sustainable water supply. They are able to freely drink the water and use it for daily activities. The access to the water supply also reduced the average travelling to-and-fro the water source, which then provides them more time for the community to focus their efforts in earning a living and taking care of their families.
